Place & story
A sheltered boulder shore
Minerstown's shore forms part of the Tyrella and Minerstown Area of Special Scientific Interest. Small and medium boulders spread across the shore, with bedrock appearing lower down. Seaweeds dominate its sheltered surfaces, while limpets and barnacles occupy more exposed rock tops. [2]
Reefs made from sand
Honeycomb worms build tubes from grains of sand cemented together. At Minerstown, dense groups of these tubes form reefs between boulders on the middle shore, creating additional habitat for other organisms. Common seals also use offshore rocks in the Minerstown and Tyrella area for resting and pupping. [2]
