Place & story
Planning a place to meet
Stars Youth Café opened through Ronanstown Youth Service in June 2007 after two years of planning and fundraising. The project converted the service’s foyer into a social venue with performance space, a dance floor and games. It responded to the shortage of evening and weekend facilities for local young people. [2]
Young people organising
Six young members worked with two youth workers on the organising committee. They elected officers, visited youth cafés in Sligo for ideas, and helped decide the decoration, menu and events. The National Youth Council of Ireland documented the project as an example of young people sharing responsibility for social activities. [2]
