Place & story
The old station
Glenfarne’s former railway station retains sandstone window surrounds, sash windows, decorative bargeboards and iron door fittings. The National Inventory’s 2003 survey recorded its conversion to a house, alongside the surviving platform and corrugated-iron Customs and Excise office. These buildings preserve evidence of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway. [2]
A local collection
The Rainbow Ballroom’s showband exhibition draws on a collection made available by local music organiser Gerry Finneran. Posters, photographs, vinyl records, stage costumes and radios recall dancehall entertainment. The venue also remembers Finneran as a founding member of the Glenfarne Gala. [3]
