Place & story
A landscape for recreation
Tymon Park formally opened in 1986. South Dublin County Council’s account describes the River Poddle supplying its lakes and linked water features, with paths, bridges and planting around them. Woodland, hedgerows and grassland share the park with playing pitches and playgrounds; a playground at the Limekiln entrance was added in 2019. [2]
Changing the mowing regime
The Great Irish Grasslands project records a deliberate change in management: many meadows are cut once annually and the cuttings removed to favour wildflowers. Biodiversity monitoring began in 2020, finding areas corresponding to lowland hay meadow and calcareous grassland habitats. A pilot project collected meadow seed in 2023 for possible use in other local restoration work. [3]
