Place & story
Old form and later alterations
Saint Mary’s Catholic Church has a cross-shaped plan, with transepts opening from the nave and a shallow chancel beyond. A stone bellcote rises over the entrance gable. Extensive alterations around 1965 replaced roof coverings, windows and doors and rearranged the interior, while retaining much of the building’s earlier form. The interior includes timber galleries in the transepts, carved pews and stained glass; cut-stone memorials surround the church in its graveyard. [2]
