Place & story
From Doyle’s to Egan’s
Egan’s Bar’s own history records that the premises belonged to the Doyle family before the Egan name was added in 1912. The business combined the pub with an adjoining grocery, reflecting the close connection between village shopping and social life. [2]
Renovation in 1994
The pub remained open while building work took place during the 1994 football World Cup. Designer Angela Murphy directed the renovation. The resulting interior included a pot-bellied stove and a snug with an open fire, retaining space for the music and singing recalled in the family’s account. [2]
