Place & story
Reuben Dinsmore’s ministry
The Reverend Reuben Dinsmore became minister of Ringsend on 6 July 1961 and served until his retirement on 5 November 1979. The Presbyterian Church’s 2004 annual report records this period within a career that had taken him from Newbliss to Gateshead before his return to Ireland. [2]
A union of congregations
Ringsend and Second Dunboe became a united charge on 1 January 1995, according to the historic-building record for Second Dunboe. The congregations retained their separate place names within the joint ministry. In April 2003 Colin W. A. Martin was ordained and installed as minister of Ringsend and Second Dunboe, an appointment recorded by Coleraine Presbytery in its report to the following year’s General Assembly. [3] [2]
The post office in 2003
Coleraine Borough Council’s minutes record a temporary closure of Ringsend Post Office beginning on 27 January 2003. The Post Office informed councillors that the sub-postmaster had resigned and that the premises were no longer available for its use. The notice expressed an intention to restore services, but does not establish when they resumed. It documents a specific interruption to one of the village’s everyday services. [4]
