Place & story
Straidarran House
Straidarran House dates from the mid-eighteenth century. A sweeping double staircase leads to its central entrance, above a basement, while a castellated wing added around 1830 gives the adjoining courtyard a contrasting appearance. The historic buildings survey records a wooded setting beside an ornamental lake that also served as a millpond. [2]
An older church site
Church ruins stand near Altinure Road, above the house’s landscape. Derry City and Strabane District Council identifies Straidarran as a medieval church site and suggests that the surviving ruin may overlie an earlier church. Its proposed eighth-century date and association with Saint Constans or Cuana remain tentative, rather than securely dated building history. [3]
