Place & story
A school with two dates
Ian Henderson's 2007 history of Ardara Methodism records two dates for Loughros Point School: 1860 on the building stone, and 1857 in circuit records. The school included a teacher's residence and also served as a place of worship. In 1922 the residence was rented to Mrs Lockhart for one shilling a year. [2]
Robert Boyd of Laccaduff
Robert Boyd, born at Laccaduff in Loughros Point in 1802, was a local Methodist figure. Henderson records that Boyd organised a soup kitchen in his home during the Famine. He later emigrated with his wife Catherine to New South Wales, where he died in 1874. [2]
