Place & story
The shortened pier
In July 1884 the Treasury explained to Parliament why Teelin Pier had been shortened during construction. An allocation of £8,000 had supported a design 360 feet long, but unexpected underwater work increased the cost. The completed pier measured 341 feet. Questions also concerned its approach road; the government distinguished responsibility for the pier from responsibility for the roads leading to it. [2]
A later harbour project
A new phase of harbour development followed in 2014, when Donegal County Council applied for a foreshore licence for a pontoon and access gangway at Teelin Pier. The application went through public consultation that autumn, and the government record gives 23 February 2016 as the determination date. The proposal continued the long effort to improve the harbour’s landing facilities. [3]
