Place & story
The engineer’s house
Keane's Bar occupies a five-bay, two-storey house built by the road and bridge engineer Alexander Nimmo. Galway's protected-structures record dates it approximately to 1825. Recessed side bays and first-floor verandas give the building an unusual outline against the surrounding mountains. [2]
A small temple-fronted courthouse
Nearby Maam Courthouse was built around 1870. Its small temple front has a recessed entrance sheltered between square stone piers. The county's architectural record singles it out as an unusually accomplished public building for a location outside a town. The courthouse and Nimmo's house are recorded in Moneenmore at Maam. [2]
