Place & story
Fifty years of a community hall
Fenagh Community Centre stands beside St Mary’s Church at Foxfield, providing a hall and meeting room for classes, drama, films and gatherings. In August 2026, Fenagh Development marked the centre’s fiftieth anniversary by asking residents for photographs and memories of its opening function. The appeal gives a useful date for this part of Foxfield’s social infrastructure while showing how the history of an everyday community building is still being assembled. [2] [3]
Recording the church graves
The graves at Foxfield Church formed part of a parish research project carried out in summer 2011. Fenagh Development recorded grave positions, mapped the burial grounds and photographed and transcribed headstones, while acknowledging that age and weathering had left some inscriptions unreadable. Foxfield’s records sit alongside those of the abbey and Church of Ireland burial grounds. The project also seeks to extend the survey to the newer cemetery near St Mary’s. [4]
Anselm Reynolds and youth football
Foxfield resident Anselm Reynolds combined a career as a primary teacher and principal with decades of service to Leitrim GAA. The county board’s 2015 appreciation records his terms as underage secretary and chairman, followed by service as treasurer from 1995 to 2002. He also helped organise the county’s hosting of Féile Peil na nÓg in 2007. His work connected teaching in Kiltubrid and Fenagh with the organisation of youth football across Leitrim. [5]
