Place & story
Greystone Rectory
The former Greystone Rectory stands in Drumnashalog townland. A heritage survey dates it to 1822 and describes a two-storey house over a basement, with a hipped roof, rubble-stone walls and brick dressings. A two-storey stable block and entrance gates complete the group. The buildings record the provision of a substantial ministerial household in the countryside south of Dungannon, rather than a large village street. [2]
The postal name
The Greystone office replaced Mullyrodden in January 1901; Smith records a rubber datestamp that year. [3]
Football before a permanent parish club
Eglish GAA’s history records Greystone residents among the players who represented Reaskmore in the early twentieth century. That team travelled to play Moy in 1907 and 1913, although it never affiliated to the Tyrone County Board. Greystone later fielded one of five teams in a parish league, alongside Brantry, Terryglassog, Crubinagh and Eglish. Such local competitions helped widen participation before the more lasting establishment of the Eglish club. [4]
