Place & story

A training-camp connection

The Northern Ireland Community Archive’s exhibition on women in the War of Independence records an IRA training camp at Glenbush after the 1921 Truce. Cumann na mBan volunteers helped supply and organise the camps here and at Dunloy. Their work places local women within the practical support network behind republican activity in north Antrim. [2]

A rural postal centre

The Post Office Guide of April 1900 lists Glenbush under Armoy in County Antrim. More than a century later, the branch appeared in a House of Commons motion protesting post-office closures. The 2008 announcement issued by Post Office Limited identified the Glenbush branch at 20 Glenbush Road among those marked for closure. [3] [4] [5]
