Place & story
A sub-post office in the delivery network
On 22 March 1920, Captain Craig raised postal deliveries to Ballymacilroy in the House of Commons. His question identified Whitesides Corner as the nearest sub-post office and complained about the postman’s waiting time there on days without delivery to the outlying district. Assistant Postmaster-General Pike Pease promised an inquiry; the answer did not announce a new daily service. [2]
Changes at the crossroads
A September 2010 local report described road-safety work under way along Whitesides Road. Proposed measures at the corner included central hatched markings to prevent overtaking and help drivers turning into Ahoghill Road and Glebe Road. The programme also covered signs, road markings and grip surfacing on bends. The account records the improvement programme, rather than confirming completion of every measure. [3]
