Place & story
Hayes House
Meath County Council’s protected-structures record identifies Hayes in Haystown and Carnuff Little as a country house dating to about 1770. Its principal elevation has seven bays, with two storeys over a basement. The entry includes the outbuildings and gate lodge as parts of the historic property. [2]
An earlier place of worship
Beauparc parish’s history, drawing on Dean Cogan, records a mud-walled, thatched chapel in Hayestown. It places this within the earlier sequence of local Catholic places of worship, before a subsequent chapel at Seneschalstown. The account preserves evidence of a modest building quite different from the surviving country house. [3]
