Place & story
The oil mill
The architectural inventory dates the former oil mill to about 1825. Its four storeys rise above a basement, with limestone forming the lower walls and brickwork above. Iron ties reinforce the upper walls. The 2002 survey recorded its later use as an engineering workshop. [2]
Conserving the complex
In a January 2021 council reply, South Dublin County Council recorded repairs and stabilisation completed in 2012. Its conservation officer worked with the owners’ architect to protect the mustard mill from further deterioration. The reply identified the mills as protected structures within Palmerstown’s architectural conservation area. [3]
