Place & story

A meeting to re-establish a club

In 1971 a meeting at Tuosist Parish Hall set about re-establishing a Gaelic football club. Fr Dennehy chaired the gathering, which chose the Tuosist name and affiliation to the Kenmare District Board. John Healy became chairman and P J O’Sullivan of Ardea became secretary. The first annual general meeting followed in spring 1972, with Michael Murphy taking over as secretary. [2]

Planning a community complex

The hall later became the focus of a proposal for a community complex on an adjoining site. The scheme combined a synthetic playing pitch with a walkway and recreational space, alongside an extension and improvements to the hall. Its organisers described the hall’s existing role in bingo, drama, music and dance, as well as activities involving the youth club and Caha Centre. [2]
