Place & story
Building a meeting place
Construction of Kilbehenny Community Centre began in 1975 on land donated by the Church of Ireland. Most of the labour was voluntary, and the project cost £11,500. Limerick hurler Pat Hartigan officially opened the hall on 23 March 1976, with singer Seán Ó Sé acting as compere. The building included a stage, a maple-floored hall and meeting rooms. [2]
Renewal and design
A refurbishment plan began in 2006, followed by community consultation and planning. Building work started in 2011 and was completed in 2014. Students in the Small Town Studio project also helped improve the stage and acoustics, adding artwork to a building shaped by community needs. [2]
