Place & story
From temporary rooms to a gym
Neilstown Boxing Club began in 1979. In Stephen Farrell’s anniversary interview, coach Gerard Fleming recalled sharing a foreman’s hut with a karate club, then moving through the old mansion house in Neilstown Park to Saint Peter the Apostle National School. A purpose-built gym followed in 2010. The club marked its forty-fifth anniversary in 2024 by hosting the Celtic Warrior Box Cup at Collinstown College’s sports arena. [2]
A community fundraiser
In April 2022 the Irish Athletic Boxing Association reported that the club had organised a boxing festival for local families who had fled the war in Ukraine. Eighty-four boxers took part. The fundraiser had collected €2,390 when the report appeared, with donations still arriving. [3]
