Place & story
Houses within stone walls
Moneygashel includes the remains of three stone cashels, circular enclosures that accommodated houses and animal shelters. The Geopark's account places them in the early Christian period. The surviving enclosures form part of the archaeological landscape around Blacklion and the Gowlan walking routes. [2]
Recording the farmstead
In 2017 an Andrews University architecture team selected Moneygashel Cashel and a neighbouring pre-Famine farmstead for detailed recording. Their research programme used measured drawings, photography and non-invasive photogrammetry to investigate successive generations of habitation. The project considered the relationship between agricultural communities, buildings and the surrounding landscape. [3]
