Place & story

A Christmas dedication

At St Nicholas’s rededication, community representative Pat Sheehan recalled that Bishop Timothy Murphy had first blessed and dedicated the church on Christmas Day 1856. Pat Golden’s local account preserves that connection between the nineteenth-century building and its later congregation. [2]

Restoration after Ophelia

Storm Ophelia severely damaged the church. Following repairs and modernisation, Bishop William Crean rededicated it, as reported by Golden in January 2020. During the closure, ceremonies had taken place in the community centre. The returning congregation’s music combined the church choir with pupils from Kilcorney National School. [2]
