Place & story
Foundry Bridge
Foundry Bridge carries a road across Dooballagh Burn. Its stone arch has projecting buttresses on both faces. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage suggests rebuilding or alteration around the mid-nineteenth century, while noting a bridge on the 1836 map. It connects the name with a nearby smithy shown on later mapping. [2]
A railway crossing
Another single-arch bridge in Knockbrack carried the narrow-gauge Strabane–Letterkenny railway over a stream. The line opened in 1909 and closed in 1960. The inventory records the surviving structure in a private garden beside an altered crossing-keeper’s house, with its rails removed and grass covering the deck. [3]
