Place & story

A locally developed centre

Ray Community Group planned and delivered a new centre with LEADER support. The government’s 2017 rural development action plan highlighted the project as a case study: local people helped plan and construct the building and continued to run it afterwards. The centre provided space for recreation and services, with a part-time administrator and a caretaker. [2]

Ray remembered

A community history project launched in early 2022 gathered almost a thousand photographs from residents and the diaspora. The resulting book, Ray Remembered: A Photographic History of Ray & District, was announced in February 2023. Its 160 pages and accompanying digital archive documented more than a century and a half of life in the locality. [3]
