Place & story
Tamlaght in Lisnacree
E. D. Atkinson’s history of Dromore diocese identifies Tamlaght as an old church site in Lisnacree townland. He records that the church was already ruined in 1622, although its burial ground survived. His account associates it with Saint Thuan, preserving an ecclesiastical tradition whose early chronology remains less secure than the later documentary notice. [2]
Dorothy Grace Harnett at Lisnacree House
Dorothy Grace Harnett, who published novels as D. G. Waring, lived at Lisnacree House. Her public career included leadership of Ulster women’s units of the British Fascists from 1927 and membership of that organisation’s grand council by 1930. Patrick Maume’s biographical entry also records her later BBC work, including appearances on the Northern Ireland radio quiz Up Against It from 1946 to 1960. [3]
A contemporary broadcasting entry
The 1947 Radio Who’s Who lists Dorothy Grace Waring at Lisnacree House and describes her as a writer of radio features, plays and talks. It records a radio thriller in 1946 and eleven published books. This contemporary professional listing documents her broadcasting and literary work during her residence here, complementing the later biographical account of her political activities. [4]
