Place & story

A school opened in 1956

Millburn Primary School opened in 1956 in the heart of the Millburn estate. Its own account records 320 pupils and fourteen mainstream classes in 2024, alongside learning support and nurture provision. The school stands on Greenaway Drive. [2]

A presidential visit

President Mary McAleese visited Millburn Primary School on 10 June 2008 to see early-years teaching methods introduced from Finland. She spent time with younger pupils and heard a recital by older children. A loyalist protest took place outside; headteacher John Platt said the protesters represented a small minority and that most people supported the visit. [3]
