Place & story
A small stone complex
Drumskinny’s circle measures 12.8 metres across and contains 39 stones. Beside it are a small round cairn and an alignment of smaller uprights. Some stones were replaced following excavation and carry markings distinguishing them from the surviving ancient stones. The grouping belongs to a wider tradition of stone circles in mid-Ulster. [2]
An uncertain date
The site was excavated in 1962 and subsequently drained. Few objects were recovered, though they included Neolithic material. The Department for Communities therefore leaves open whether the monuments were built in the Neolithic or Bronze Age. Their precise purpose remains uncertain. [2]
