Place & story
Our Lady of the Assumption
Killoran’s Catholic church is dated 1837 and was refurbished in 1953–1954. Its round-headed windows include stained glass donated by local parishioners. Inside, masonry arches divide the entrance vestibule into three compartments beneath the gallery, an unusual arrangement noted by the national architectural inventory. An exposed timber roof spans the nave. [2]
Households in the surrounding townland
Jo Kelly’s local census research records 49 residents in Killoran townland in 1901, including a police barracks as well as private households. By 1911, the townland had 33 residents in eight occupied houses, with two further houses unoccupied. These figures describe the townland, rather than a separately measured village population. [3]
