Place & story
The village classrooms
Scoil Fionntáin Naofa was built in 1948–49 by local contractor Martin Breen and officially opened on 25 September 1949. Its original layout had three classrooms beside a long corridor, with outdoor toilets and play shelters. Classroom extensions in 2004 and 2020 replaced the shelters at opposite ends of the building. [2]
Tracing the past
During 2021–22, Shanahoe pupils interviewed community members and people with earlier connections to the area. Their work became the book Tracing Our Past: Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe, launched in December 2022 by former principal David Brickley. [3]
