Place & story

Saint Brigid’s Catholic church

Saint Brigid's Catholic church at Roscarban, Drumcong, dates from 1781. Transepts added around 1890 gave the building its cruciform form. The entrance tower's pyramidal roof and the north–south orientation of the nave are unusual features noted by the National Inventory. Tooled stone surrounds frame the doors and windows, while the graveyard contains memorials reaching back to the eighteenth century. [2]

The Church of Ireland interior

The Church of Ireland's Saint Bridget's at Kiltubrid was built in 1785 beside Lough Scur. It retained its gallery and box pews when many similar interiors were altered in the nineteenth century. A community restoration campaign helped preserve these features, using an approach of limited, reversible intervention. After three years of work, the church was rededicated on 6 July 2008, with an exhibition about parish history in its gallery. [3]

Leitrim Hill Creamery

Leitrim Hill Creamery began making artisan dairy products in Drumcong after founder Lisa Gifford settled in Leitrim. A converted hay shed became the base for the small creamery, which was launched in 2022. Its own account describes cheese production using milk from its goat herd and partner farmers in the region. The enterprise connects a recent return from America with a new local food business. [4] [5]
