The Percy residence

Landed Estates research identifies Garadice in Drumreilly parish as a Percy family residence in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century directories. Lewis recorded W. C. Percy there in 1837. At Griffith's Valuation, John Percy leased the house from William Percy's representatives, and the building was valued at £15. An Irish Tourist Authority survey in the 1940s found it much deteriorated. The university distinguishes this residence from a second Percy house in Carrickmakeegan. [2]

An estate offered for sale

The university's Percy estate account records an offer for sale at Garadice in May 1865 on behalf of five daughters of the family. Further sales followed in July and December, with more than three hundred acres sold in December, mostly bought in trust by Clay and Kiernan. Martha Percy still owned nearly two hundred acres in County Leitrim in the 1870s. These figures concern the estate's changing holdings, rather than the area of Garadice village. [3]

Photographing the lifting of the tracks

The National Library of Ireland preserves a photograph of men lifting railway tracks at Garadice, dated 2 July 1959, in the O'Dea collection. It was later included in the library's Trainspotting exhibition in 2000. The image's catalogued subject records the dismantling phase of local railway history. Garadice station's name covered a wider service area: the county council identifies its site as Aghawillin, on the former route towards Ballinamore. [4] [5]
