Place & story

The development of the football club

Tourlestrane GAA Club took its modern form in 1938 through the amalgamation of Rhue and Aclare. It reached a senior football final in 1944 and won its first senior championship in 1956, defeating Tubbercurry. Investment in younger players during the following decades helped build later success. In 1982 the club won the minor and senior titles on the same day. [2]

A new home for Our Lady of Benada

On 11 September 2005 a procession brought the statue of Our Lady of Benada to the church at Tourlestrane. A blessing and special Mass marked its arrival. The move connected the village church with the religious heritage of nearby Benada, where the statue had previously been kept. [3]
