Place & story
Residence and corn mill
A building at Selloo appears on the first Ordnance Survey map of 1836. In 1853 Joseph Whitsitt advertised the property for sale through the Encumbered Estates Court. The sale description included a residence in planted grounds, a corn mill and a kiln, indicating a property combining domestic and productive uses. [2]
The Pringle connection
William Pringle held Selloo in fee in the mid-nineteenth century, when the house was valued at £18. In 1876 Oliver Pringle of Selloo, then also recorded as Salso House, owned 122 acres in County Monaghan. The University of Galway database records the Hunter and Deering families occupying the house in 1901 and 1911, while Thomas A. Pringle remained the landholder. [2] [3]
