Place & story
Lislevane Cottage
At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Alexander Deane leased Lislevane Cottage from the ladies Boyle. The house was valued at £9. The Landed Estates database places this property in Lislevane townland, in the civil parish of Abbeymahon. [2]
The local Volunteers
In his Bureau of Military History statement, James Moloney recalled Lislevane as one of the sections of the Barryroe Volunteer Company. Other sections served Grange, Butlerstown and Augha. He described weekly section drills, with the whole company sometimes assembling together on Sundays. His account records the organisation as a participant remembered it. [3]
