Place & story
Planting a city woodland
More than 3,000 people joined the planting of Terryland Forest Park on 12 March 2000. Galway City Council manages the park with help from Tuatha volunteers. By its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2025, the woodland included meadows and wetlands as well as trees, and provided space for outdoor teaching. During the anniversary celebrations, Michael D. Higgins planted an oak to replace one lost in Storm Éowyn; the fallen tree had also supplied wood for artworks by Galway artist Tommy Carew. [2]
