Place & story
From livestock to the dairy
John Wilson, originally a livestock dealer, founded Wilsons of Rathkenny in 1964. The company later acquired Rathkenny Dairy, whose premises had occupied the site since 1901. Wilson sold the dairy business in 1980 but retained its premises, keeping the site at the centre of the family enterprise. [2]
Farm vehicles and cars
A Zetor tractor dealership brought sales and servicing for local farmers onto the premises. The business then expanded into cars, opening its first car franchise, for Lada, in 1985. These changes trace the site’s shift from agricultural processing towards vehicle sales and maintenance. [2]
