Place & story

Corn and power

In his county heritage account, Denis Lenihan describes the mill grinding corn and supplying flour to a bakery within its south-western section. He records a change from water power to electricity shortly before milling ended after the Second World War. [2]

People & connections

May Smyth’s business

Lenihan recalls May Smyth, who combined shopkeeping with undertaking, storing coffins in the mill. He remembers helping prepare them by drilling holes for handles and lids, while she attached lace. His account records another practical use of the building beyond milling. [2]
