Place & story
Saint John’s church
Saint John’s Church was built in 1813 with support from the Board of First Fruits. Repairs followed in 1821, and alterations designed by Joseph Welland in 1852 gave the building its later form. The church was restored in 2004. Its tower has stepped battlements, while the interior retains a gallery carried on cast-iron pillars, patterned timber pews and a Gothic pulpit. [2]
Remembering the forge
In January 2024, Hollyfort’s community heritage project began collecting photographs, information and memories about village buildings, starting with the forge. By April the group had published a free Old Forge booklet, distributed through Cooney’s shop and the Tidy Towns committee. The project made the former workplace a focus for collecting and sharing local memory. [3] [4]
