Place & story
Building and improvement
St Colman’s Church of Ireland church was built in 1815 with support from the Board of First Fruits. Further work in 1826 produced its present arrangement, followed by consecration in 1827. The entrance tower has three stages, pointed bell openings and ornamental pinnacles. [2]
Inside are carved pews, an octagonal timber pulpit and marble wall monuments. The exposed pitch-pine roof was donated in 1914 by the Reverend Henry Kyle Atkinson. Its timber framework and boarded ceiling are among the features singled out by the national architectural survey, which also records work in 1917 and repairs in 1959. [2]
