Place & story

A village survivor

A National Inventory feature of February 2015 identifies a house in Ballygarran as Kilmuckridge’s sole surviving thatched dwelling. Its precise date is unknown, but it appears on the 1841 Ordnance Survey map near the church and school. [2]

Changes within the home

The account traces a partial loft enlarged into a full attic, relocated stairs and a western extension. Repairs also uncovered traces of an earlier eastern extension. The house developed through successive alterations as its occupants needed more space. [2]
