Place & story

Saint Patrick’s and Canon Murphy

Saint Patrick’s Church is associated with Canon Edward Murphy, who served for ten years as parish priest in Eskra. The Diocese of Clogher’s account of his life credits him with building the church and its distinctive pipe organ. It remains a significant part of his local legacy. [2]

People & connections

Tony Marlow and Eskra Emmetts

Teacher and footballer Tony Marlow helped revive Eskra Emmetts when the club reformed in 1978, later contributing as a coach and manager. He taught at Saint Patrick’s Primary School, encouraging children to take part in Gaelic games. Marlow had also played on Tyrone’s All-Ireland-winning minor team in 1973. Tributes after his death in 2026 recalled both his sporting achievements and his years of work with local young people. [3]
