Place & story
An early county championship
Drombane formed a team in 1886 after a large tournament in Thurles inspired local players. In 1894 the side won the county hurling championship, defeating Thurles at Holycross. Captain Fergus Moriarty and Paddy Riordan were among the players remembered in Tipperary GAA’s account of the club’s early years. [2]
The grounds at Drombane
Upperchurch Drombane purchased its present field in 1969. Later improvements brought dressing rooms, a gym and meeting space to the clubhouse. A walking track around the pitch extended the grounds’ role beyond matches and training, providing a place for the wider community to walk. [2]
