Place & story
The Sacred Heart Church
The Sacred Heart Church is dated 1874. Its four-bay nave has a chancel and a north-eastern transept, with porches added to the building’s outline. Roughly dressed sandstone on the west front contrasts with limestone window surrounds and cornerstones. A four-lobed rose window contains stained glass, while an open timber scissor-truss roof spans the interior. The architectural survey also records a carved limestone block bearing a human figure in high relief. It does not assign the carving a date or identify the figure. [2]
