Place & story
A shop and a telephone
A newspaper account of the shop’s reopening on 22 February 2013 traced its origins to John Peters in the mid nineteenth century. It later passed through the Walsh family. The report recalled a village with a creamery, sawmill, forge, dance hall and cobbler, as well as shops and a post office. Walsh’s telephone carried family messages for people whose relatives had emigrated. After a three-week closure, the refurbished shop reopened with locally supplied eggs, baking and vegetables. [2]
