Place & story
Two generations of school buildings
Latnamard National School’s present building opened in 1985, replacing a school opened in 1928. Its own account describes substantial parish support for premises intended for community use as well as teaching. The older school was later renovated as a resource centre and preschool. A classroom extension to the newer building followed in 2013. [2]
Schoolgirls on a larger sporting stage
The Ladies Gaelic Football Association’s history records Anna Carolan entering Latnamard pupils in the girls’ INTO/GAA skills awards in 1988. The school won Ulster titles between 1988 and 1990, and six pupils played at Croke Park on All-Ireland semifinal and final days. In 1990 Latnamard also won the new eleven-a-side primary-school championship. [3]
