Place & story
Star of the Sea
The Catholic Church of the Star of the Sea was built in 1881–82 and dedicated in 1882. Its architects were James Joseph McCarthy and Charles James McCarthy. Brick from the Courtown Brick and Tile Works contrasts with granite window and doorway surrounds. Inside, the exposed timber roof rises above a sanctuary reordered in 1968–69; further restoration followed in 1980–81. [2]
Seamount fountain
At Seamount, a small stone fountain was already standing in 1904. A gabled roof shelters its arched recess, where a fluted iron tap sits beneath a granite keystone. The architectural survey recorded it as disused in 2007. [3]
