Place & story
Building St Patrick’s in 1877
St Patrick’s Church at Knock was built in 1877 during Fr Kennedy’s pastorate. The Diocese of Killaloe records that Captain Gibson of Rockforest provided the site and allowed stone to be taken from his quarry without charge. A mason from Errill built the church. Renovations followed in 1984 and 2004. [2]
Colour in the church front
The church’s front combines limestone and sandstone, with alternating stone blocks framing its pointed openings and belfry. Inside, the architectural survey records a timber A-frame roof and a gallery above the entrance. Its compact scale and carefully worked front make the building a distinctive part of Knock’s crossroads. [3]
