Place & story
A church brought to the village
The Church of Our Lady of Visitation was re-erected at Rear Cross in 1887 after earlier use by a Methodist congregation in Britain. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage records a restoration around 2000 and rates the building as being of national significance. [2]
Metal outside, timber within
Corrugated iron covers the walls and main roof, with decorative cast-iron cresting above. The cruciform plan incorporates a tower and spire at a front corner. Inside, timber boarding and an exposed roof with arched braces contrast with the metal exterior; galleries occupy the rear and both transepts. [2]
